The Obama Administration Moves Our Southern Border To Guatemala: So Says Alan Bersin Of DHS

Really, can't make this stuff up.

While we spend our energies obsessing about what Mitt blurted out while answering a question at what he thought was a private fund-raiser, we might wish to give a bit of our attention to what Alan Bersin says at a public and official function, a reception hosted by the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday evening.
 
Bersin is currently Assistant Secretary of International Affairs and Chief Diplomatic Officer for the Department of Homeland Security. He oversees the Department's international engagement and serves as the principal advisor to Secretary Janet Napolitano on all international affairs.

Says Assistant Secretary Bursin at Homeland Security:

“The Guatemalan border with Chiapas is now our southern border,” Bersin said. He cited a study by Pew Research which showed that last year more Mexicans left the United States than entered it. This, he said, ended six decades of illegal immigration from Mexico.

Bersin said the change in the flow of migration is not a “flash in the pan.” He said economic conditions have played a part in reducing illegal immigration. But so, too, has border security, he argued. 

“The economy contributes to it but the enforcement posture in the United States has increased since 1993 in a way that was absolutely unforeseen. One of the great bipartisan accomplishments of the last generation, some would say the greatest accomplishment, Republicans and Democrats alike, was restoring the rule of law to the U.S.-Mexican border,” Bersin said.

Whew--glad we got that cleared up! We've restored the Rule of Law to the US-Mexican border!

The Orders To Nullify Any Adverse Consequence From The Court Were Already Drafted, or, How The Obama Administration Is Shredding The Constitution One Provision At A Time...

Roy Beck from Numbers USA, obviously not a disinterested commenter, weighs in on today's ruling:

In his dissent, Justice Scalia was much more specific, citing the Obama administration’s announcement just two weeks ago that it would refuse to enforce the law against illegal aliens who would benefit from the DREAM Act amnesty that Congress has rejected three times.
"After this case was argued and while it was under consideration," Scalia wrote, "the Secretary of Homeland Security announced a program exempting from immigration enforcement some 1.4 million illegal immigrants under the age of 30.

"The president said at a news conference that the new program is 'the right thing to do' in light of Congress’s failure to pass the Administration’s proposed revision of the Immigration Act. Perhaps it is, though Arizona may not think so. But to say, as the Court (majority) does, that Arizona contradicts federal by enforcing application of the Immigration Act that the President declines to enforce boggles the mind." 

As if to underscore Scalia’s assessment of the current administration as a nullifier of congressionally-passed laws, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano only hours after the ruling, announced that she would suspend yet another enforcement required under federal immigration laws. Because the Court ruling will result in a lot more illegal aliens being brought to the attention of the feds, she said, her department will suspend the 287(g) program in Arizona, and pledged that nothing in the ruling will interfere with the administrative amnesty announced last week. 

Only hours after the ruling...which says in effect--Screw the Congress, screw the States and their prerogatives, screw the Constitution, screw the Rule of Law, and screw you if you disagree with us.

If we don't like some provision of the law, we'll just ignore it!

Screw you!

'Turn Back South': Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever Blows The Whistle About DHS Refusal To Enforce The Southern Border

The mail supporting his assertions has been flooding in, and the correspondents tell on consistent story: DHS wants to cook the statistics to make it appear the illegal immigration problem is improving, when in fact it is deteriorating.

An Arizona sheriff says he has been flooded with calls and emails of support from local and federal agents who back his claims that the U.S. Border Patrol has effectively ordered them to stop apprehending illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexican border.

..and later...

Local 2544, the Tucson branch of the National Border Patrol Council union, has also come out in support of Dever, and posted this message on their website after the FoxNews.com report.

“Sheriff Dever is right. We have seen so many slick shenanigans pulled in regards to 'got-aways' and entry numbers that at times it seems David Copperfield is running the Border Patrol. Creating the illusion that all is well and you can start having family picnics in the areas where we work has been going on far too long. Has there been improvement in some areas? Absolutely. Is the border anywhere near 'under control'? Absolutely not. Do some in management play games with numbers and cater to the wishes of politicians like Janet Napolitano and David Aguilar? Resoundingly, yes. Time for the foolish political games to stop.”

There are, of course, the standard spluttering indignant denials from DHS. They are a regular part of the Kabuki Theater that now passes for governance in a country run by children.

The worst damage of all is to the public trust. Every time this happens, the pressure washer of rank dishonesty blows more mortar from between the bricks of the culture.

It's become so common, we've become innured, and that is a dangerous state in which to live.

So, How Did An Iranian Book Celebrating Suicide Bombers End Up In The Arizona Desert Near The Mexican Border?

Is it time to finish building that fence? Deploy active duty military units? Really, finally pay attention to the threat?

One could begin to think that Janet Napolitano and her boss might actually want something horrible to happen inside our borders...our own Reichstag moment, so to speak.

It's either that--or shocking, mindless neglect. Any other explanations?

Stonewalling FOIA request for results of a DHS investigation of the case of an illegal alien, with two DUI's, never deported, who drove drunk again, and killed a nun.

Since he was smuggled in as a child, he would be one of those eligible to remain under the terms of the DREAM act pushed by Harry Reid.

Wonder if the stonewall coincided with the need to have zero bad news whilst trying to flog this legislation through?

On to another tragedy: Last night's murder of a Border Patrol agent in Arizona.

No problem...the lawsuit against Arizona continues...'cuz BigSis assures us there's really not a problem, except that the Governor and Legislature and citizenry are all racist and stuff and don't have the right to run their own state 'cuz they not our kind of people...

And that the violence will remain on the Mexican side of the border, and we need to be more welcoming and accommodating to all those poor immigrants, and...

OS has put BigSis and TSA Head John Pistole on a personal countdown list, e.g., How many more days of utter idiocy, bullying of passengers, strip-searches of little boys and little old ladies, hour-long lines, unsold airline seats, flight delays (that will begin to affect air travel around the world) and daily humiliations at the hands of Letterman and his writers, before they are finally sacked.

They may make it through Christmas, maybe past January 1, but they won't survive the seating of the new Congress, when a Republican majority takes over the committees begins asking the hard questions, and issuing the subpeonas. By that time, the lawsuits will be stacking up on the doorstep of BigSis's office.

If they plan ahead, they can start now, shredding the papers and wiping the hard drives that document just how venal and inept they are. Circulate the resume for the next job, arrange to sell what they carry around in their heads to the Syrians, get a few talking head gigs on MSNBC scheduled, and generally prepare to get out of Dodge with some cash to keep them warm.

If Thanksgiving weekend goes pear-shaped, they'll be gone next week, with no time to cover their trail and arrange a pile of cash upon which to land. If planes start flying empty because passengers simply stay home, they'll be gone by Christmas, definitely. If the strip-searches of little children continue to be captured on video and posted, or scanner images of public people start showing up on the newsfeeds, they're gone the next day. In any case, 18 January will find them gone.

The non-stop spin at every media outlet betrays their level of anxiety.

When Is Obama Gonna Locate His Huevos And Fire Napolitano And John Pistole

Answer, never, because he actually is working toward creating his HopeyChangeySociety where anyone, anywhere can be 'patted down', i.e. groped and violated by any agency He designates. When anyone dare record the event, and publicize it, they become targets of intimidation by thugs. The gropers are doing His bidding, creating an atmosphere where any and all understand that they have no expectation of privacy. They are just grooming the targets for more violations later.

John Pistole, that paragon of courage, was on every morning news show trying to spin this thing to Kingdom Come, with Washington jargon about 'flexibility', 're-examining procedures', etc.

Remember, he's a Jargonista, one who views language as nothing more than noises to be made in order to get one's way. Words do not have intrinsic meaning, and individuals have no intrinsic dignity. This is the same guy who, in very blunt language before a Congressional committee declared last week that this is going to be the policy, and no one will change it. Those words, he meant. He just assumed nobody was paying attention last week.

This week, the HopeyChangies discovered people are in fact, well, paying attention. And posting incidents like the following, a strip-search of an eight-year-old boy in Salt Lake City, who did not set off a scanner alarm, and who understandably was reluctant to have a stranger grope his private parts. That made him suspect in the minds of the agents of the TSA.

This is our future, unless we stand up and scream NO NO NO. Never.

Not me. Not my spouse. Not my aged parents. Not cancer patients with ostomy bags, who are left soaking in their own urine, without aid or apology. Not breast cancer survivors, with surgical wounds still healing (like a good friend of OS's, who won't likely be flying and taking that risk.)

And certainly not my children.

What part of NO does that narcissist in the White House not understand?

TSA claims this is preventing another 'underwear bomber attack'. Not, it's not. It's about refusing to do realistic, hard work, to keep known dangerous people off flights. The Underwear Bomber had warning flags all over him. His own father had contacted US authorities at a high level to warn them his son had become a jihadist. He flew from Africa, paying cash for his ticket. In the interests of political correctness, the authorities refused to question him and search him.

That's what happened. The Obama Adminisitration are now using it as a pretext to crack down on the culture, to make it as unfree as possible, as quickly as possible.

Letterman's Top 10 list tonight covered this scandal, and it was devastatingly funny. OS will find and post it as soon as possible. One earlier joke in the evening, though, said much: The TSA is getting so many complaints about their agents groping children, that they've begun transferring them to other parishes.

That about says it.

There is so much more to say. But it's late.

And his Attorney General. And his Secretary of Homeland Security. And (one suspects) the Vice President, Speaker of the House, Senate Majority leader, White House Chief of Staff...

Governor Brewer said this:

Some of those people from outside our state have an interest in seeing us fail.

They will wait for a single slip-up, one mistake, and then they will work day and night to create headlines and get the face time they so desperately covet.

We cannot give them that chance.

We must use this new tool wisely, and fight for our safety with the honor Arizona deserves.

We must react calmly.

We must enforce the law evenly, and without regard to skin color, accent, or
social status.

We must prove the alarmists and the cynics wrong.

I know in my heart that this great state, my home for more than 40 years, is up to the task.

I believe every one of us wants to be safe, and none of us wants to compromise on the subject of civil rights.

I believe we must love and honor those who fight beside us – just as we must love and honor those who look and believe nothing like we do.

I believe Arizona,like America, is governed by laws.

Good laws... well-intentioned laws...laws that confer respect and that demand respect in return.

In his third State of the Union address, President Theodore Roosevelt said, ―No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man's permission when we require him to obey it. Obedience to the law is demanded as a right; not asked as a favor.

So, let us move forward -- ever mindful of our rights ...

You Mean I'm S'pozed To Actually READ A Law Before Denouncing It?: Janet Napolitano Admits She Hasn't Read The Arizona Law, Either

Simply, utterly amazing...

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano admitted Monday that she has not read the controversial Arizona immigration law even though she's gone on television to criticize it, and continued to assert that it was "bad law enforcement law."

The admission comes after Attorney General Eric Holder, who earlier warned the law could create a "slippery slope" toward racial profiling, told a House committee last week that he had not read the bill either. On Tuesday, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said he too had not read the bill, even as he defended diplomatic official Michael Posner for comparing the law to Chinese human rights violations.

Remember, these public servants were appointed by the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the former editor of Harvard Law Review.
