Just In Time For The DNC: Debbie Wasserman Schulz's Parents Are Headed To Jail For Tax Evasion And Corruption

File under: You just can't make this up.

Imagine: Had Rence Preibus's folks been sent to the clink the week before the RNC, that would be alllllllllll......we would have heard about.

The media's silence on this debacle is deafening.

Artur Davis At The GOP Convention

OS watched what he could stand of the proceedings yesterday...what was not boring seemed lame, and he couldn't bring himself to make Mrs. OS endure a moment of it. We had a lovely dinner at a quiet Japanese restaurant that opened up two years ago and has managed to hang on in a deeply redneck county.

He does regret not hearing the speech given by Artur Davis, the 2008 Obama campaign co-chair.

So, in case anyone else missed it, here it is.

He had carefully washed all the anger out of his text, while leaving the sense of loss and disillusionment well in place.

Maybe we should have known that night in Denver that things that begin with plywood Greek columns and artificial smoke typically don't end well.

Maybe the Hollywood stars and the glamour blinded us a little: you thought it was the glare, some of us thought it was a halo.

But in all seriousness, do you know why so many of us believed? We led with our hearts and our dreams that we could be more inclusive than America had ever been, and no candidate had ever spoken so beautifully.

But dreams meet daybreak: the jobless know what I mean, so do the families who wonder how this Administration could wreck a recovery for three years and counting.

No doubt there is a lot of fur flying around his life now. A lot of friendships lost, bitter words launched in his direction. A great deal of questioning of his basic sense of ethics. And he's got to wonder how many of those people in that room really would invite him to dinner, make him that good job offer, or introduce him to their daughters. How many will be his friends this time next year?

So, this took some courage.

And, as viciously as his old colleagues rail at him, they can't erase the historical fact of his crucial role in the 2008 Obama victory. His presence and words last night are a true repudiation of the entire Obama mystique. He knows where the bodies are buried, and they must worry a bit about how much of what he learned over the years has been disclosed.

Chris Matthews In Complete Hysterical Meltdown, Calling Rence Preibus 'Garbage' Live On Air

MSNBC Morning Joe was, well, colorful this morning, for the 37 viewers who tuned in.

Tom Brokaw attempted to pull Chris 'Thrill-Up-My-Leg' Matthews back from the brink, as did Morning Joe himself, as did everyone else on camera. All to no avail.

Priebus was pretty cheesed at the treatment received, but did manage to control his temper. At the end, he dismissed Chris 'Thrill-Up-My-Leg' Matthews accusations as 'garbage'--at which point Matthews blurted 'You're garbage!'.

Then they went to commercial break.

Brokaw  could have done such wonders for the MSNBC brand had he interrupted proceedings and demanded an apology, then and there, from Matthews. He had tried valiantly to turn Matthews' hysterical rant into something resembling a dignified conversation. Mr. 'Thrill-Up-My-Leg' would have none of it.

20/20 hindsight. The whole group had that 'deer-in-the-headlights' look, shocked at what they had just witnessed. Or, perhaps, they agreed with him? Seems less likely, given the looks on their faces.

There will, of course, be exactly no repercussions or sanction against Matthews, since he is after all a TrueBeliever for the Left.

Imagine had Bill O'Reilly engaged in this behavior. The knives would be drawn, and the bloodletting would be underway already.

Chicago Shootings: Your Own Personal Map

The Chicago Tribune has kindly provided a map of this weekend's shootings.

Remember, this city has been under the care of the Democrat Party for decades. It's mayor is Obama's main home-boy-former chief of staff.

This is Obama's world, his stomping ground, his 'hood, his power base. These are his people, his homies.

OS asks--Do we wish to see maps like this published for places like Bowling Green, KY? Des Moines? Spartanburg, SC? Hartford, CT?

Do we want this as our future?

Detroit After Fifty Years Of Uniterrupted Democrat Rule: 12, 00 Abandoned Houses

Here's a photo gallery of just 100 of them.

OS hopes you take a moment to view these. Some of them were architectural gems, the sort of house one would dream of owning in more innocent days.

If we're going to spend our energies foaming at the mouth about a Missouri GOP Senate candidate with foot-in-mouth disease, we should reserve just a bit of that outrage for the kind of governance that creates this sort of tragedy.

 Just a bit...

By the way, the heads-up to the world about this collection emanates from London's Daily Mail.

These shots of Detroit, and many others, look like London in the late 1940's. It's pitiful, it's tragic, and that tragedy is not lost on our English friends.

Nineteen Shootings In Chicago Last Night: Obama's Home Turf, Run By His Former Chief Of Staff

This week, we've been treated to how many millions of words spewed out in the wake of a Missouri congressman sticking his foot in his mouth?

How many hundreds of thousands of indignant words over Mitt Romney suffering his own attack of 'foot-in-mouth' syndrome.

OS not attempting to excuse them, or explain them away. They were simply dumb, thoughtless moments that should not have happened. But neither do they merit the manufactured outrage received.

Where, on the other hand, are the outrage, fear-and-loathing, outcry, rending of garments, beating of breasts, mass marches, etc. over this bit of news from Chicago?

This is from the BBC, not exactly a right-wing-nut-job outfit, if memory serves:

Nineteen people were shot in seven attacks overnight in Chicago, as the US city's gun violence epidemic continued.

Thirteen of the victims were shot within a half-hour period, including eight in a drive-by shooting on a single street.

Chicago officials have been battling a sharp increase in shootings and homicides, with some elected officials arguing gangs do not fear the police.

The city's murder rate has spiked 29% year-over-year as of this month.

By that time in 2011, 270 people had been killed in the city, according to data complied by the local newspaper RedEye Chicago. In 2012, that number is 348.

It is not the first time this year Chicago has seen a single night of double-digit victims. Over the Memorial Day weekend in May, 12 people were killed, and another 48 were wounded.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has been criticised for eliminating police teams sent to crime hot spots.

Chicago's homicide increase is counter to lowered rates in other major US cities, including New York and Washington.

OS notes, wryly, that the Police Superintendent is called out as being somehow responsible for this.

But, isn't Rahm Emanuel the Mayor? Wasn't he Obama's right-hand man? Isn't Chicago Obama's home-town, from whence he was catapaulted to the White House as the Great Hope for America? didn't he run on the strength of his transformative work on the streets of Chicago?

If the Obama/Emanuel approach to governance is truly effective, should we be seeing at 29% increase, year-over-year, in the murder rate?

How does this bit of news stack up against the verbal gaffes from Missouri and Michigan?  Have we all somehow lost the plot, lost our sense of perspective?

Locally, a state senator truly stepped in it by circulating an offensively hostile email.

Should'na dunnit. Stupid. Thoughtless. No excuse for it.

But he was inquiring into reports of grade-fixing at a state-funded university, and he was, well, pretty upset about it. Again, his actions in response were simply stupid.

But, OS has yet to hear a peep of outrage about the possibility that university officials may well be cooking the academic books, and send the taxpayers the bill.

Not. a. peep.

Have we lost the plot somehow?
