We need that wall on the southern border, like yesterday.
A feckless Congress, and amoral executive and judicial officials have made this misery possible.
The culture shapes the economy long before the economy shapes the culture. Where should we devote our energies?

Big Red Car--The Boss Explains How Trump's Wall Is Funded...and why we should build it, even out of our own pockets
OS urges his legions of readers to check out BRC--loads of wisdom, delivered with gentle wry humor.
This post, in particular, drives home the central points of Trump's ideas: We can secure the border, and the benefits overwhelm the costs. End of story.
OS will copy a bit of it for you to read--for the REAL payoff, you'll have to hit that little link....
Big Red Car here in the ATX on a lovely day. Got a call from Donald Trump, who said, “Big Red Car, you’re handy with numbers, right?” Before he said anything else, I knew he was talking about the WALL.
“Yes, Donald, I am,” says I.
“How would YOU finance the WALL, Big Red Car?”
To which I reply, “Well, Donald, I’d put a little tariff on imports and exports. That’s what I’d do.”
“Will that work, Big Red Car?” asks That Donald.
“Of course, it’ll work, Donald.”
“Thanks, Big Red Car.”
“Best to Melania, Donnie. See you when the WALL is finished.”
[Melania loves the Big Red Car. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!]

How Do We Secure The Border? One Frigging Yard At A Time!
Daniel Henninger, that pooh-bah of EastCoastGroupThink, assures us poor schmoes here in Flyover America that the border with Mexico just can't POSSIBLY be secured. It's sooooo hard!!! So, we'll just have to let illegals flood us, and let them squat and vote and live off food stamps.
And if we don't, and build the wall to secure the border, why that would be just like the East Germans building the Berlin Wall.
Wrong!!! The Berlin Wall was built to keep oppressed people captive inside East Germany, not to keep the hordes of West Germans living in freedom from immigrating to the Soviet bloc. We are being invaded by people who have no, zero, respect for the rule of law, and no intention of ever integrating into American life.
Did he sleep through that history class at Georgetown, or do facts simply not matter?
Here's his whining quote of his essay in today's Wall Street Journal:
If you were to lift the Texas end of that border, like a string, and move it northward toward the Great Lakes, the length of the border between the U.S. and Mexico, as noted on the nearby map, is about the distance from San Diego to Chicago. That "border" would cross California, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois—most of the American continent. How would we secure all of that?
One yard at a time, Mr. Henninger. It is not a matter of engineering.
It is a matter of will.
The Bush Administration lacked the will, even though it had clear legislative instructions.
The Obama Administration can't get enough illegals across the frontier quickly enough, to help secure their hold on power for generations to come.
It is a matter of will, and integrity, both qualities sadly lacking in the deputy editorial page editor for The Wall Street Journal...

The Obama Administration Moves Our Southern Border To Guatemala: So Says Alan Bersin Of DHS
Really, can't make this stuff up.
While we spend our energies obsessing about what Mitt blurted out while answering a question at what he thought was a private fund-raiser, we might wish to give a bit of our attention to what Alan Bersin says at a public and official function, a reception hosted by the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday evening.
Bersin is currently Assistant Secretary of International Affairs and Chief Diplomatic Officer for the Department of Homeland Security. He oversees the Department's international engagement and serves as the principal advisor to Secretary Janet Napolitano on all international affairs.
Says Assistant Secretary Bursin at Homeland Security:
“The Guatemalan border with Chiapas is now our southern border,” Bersin said. He cited a study by Pew Research which showed that last year more Mexicans left the United States than entered it. This, he said, ended six decades of illegal immigration from Mexico.
Bersin said the change in the flow of migration is not a “flash in the pan.” He said economic conditions have played a part in reducing illegal immigration. But so, too, has border security, he argued.
“The economy contributes to it but the enforcement posture in the United States has increased since 1993 in a way that was absolutely unforeseen. One of the great bipartisan accomplishments of the last generation, some would say the greatest accomplishment, Republicans and Democrats alike, was restoring the rule of law to the U.S.-Mexican border,” Bersin said.
Whew--glad we got that cleared up! We've restored the Rule of Law to the US-Mexican border!
Which really doesn't exist anymore...
