Sarah Palin Sues The New York Times, Because Enough Is Enough Is Enough Is Enough

The Times repeated, once again, the clearly proven lie that Governor Palin's exercise of free speech resulted in the horrific mass shooting in Arizona that left Congresswoman Gabby Gifford terribly injured, and eleven dead.

A few hours later, they kinda-sorta-maybe retracted the assertion, while pointedly not naming Mrs. Palin as the target of their earlier viciousness, and issuing no apology.

Yesterday, she struck back. A copy of the lawsuit filed may be found here.

OS wishes her every good fortune, and hopes that she gets her day in court, gets her verdict, and gets a jury that sends a painful painful (as in sell bunches of real estate, fire bunches of responsible execs, bleed cash for years paying it all off) judgement against these horrible, horrible people.

The Great Non-Story: Sarah Palin's Emails, And A Random Thought Or Two

OS will be away from desk, home and normal life for the remainder of the week, attending a most wonderful conference. He thanks his readers, the number of whom has risen dramatically since the Weiner debacle. (Sorry, did it again...)

Sometimes, though, the things deserving attention are the things that don't generate fireworks.

Toby Harden at The Telegraph points out one such thing--the strange release of all of Sarah Palin's emails from her governorship of Alaska.

The trove of more than 13,000 emails detailing almost every aspect of Sarah Palin’s governorship of Alaska, released late on Friday, paints a picture of her as an idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane woman slightly bemused by the world of politics.

One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital, to pore over the emails in the hope of digging up a scandal are now viewing the result as a rather poor return on their considerable investment.

In other words, there is a possibility that the woman we see on the cameras really is just Sarah Palin, who has an unnerving way of speaking in a stream-of-consciousness form of English that draws ridicule from the literati. And, yes, she really should take a deep breath and allow the words to line up in coherent sentences before she engages her vocal cords.

One email that did surface was reprinted in its entirety by the LA Times, certainly no right-wing champion.

Among some 13,000 messages was an unexpected, revealing and touching email from Palin to friends and family.

It was initially written, obviously not for publication, in April of 2008 just a few days before....
...the arrival of her fifth child, Trig, who was born with Down syndrome. In her email Palin imagines a letter from God to the family about to launch on its challenging child-rearing experience together.

Here is Palin's entire letter:

To the Sisters, Brother, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends of Trig Paxson Van Palin (or whatever you end up naming him!):

I am blessing you with this surprise baby because I only want the best for you. I've heard your prayers that this baby will be happy and healthy, and I've answered them because I only want the best for you!

I heard your heart when you hinted that another boy would fit best in the Palin family, to round it out and complete that starting five line-up.

Though another girl would be so nice, you didn't think you could ask for what you REALLY wanted, but I knew, so I gave you a boy because I only want the best for you!

The remainder is here, go ahead and click on it...OS doesn't wish to ruin the surprise, the good moment that awaits his readers who take the time to read this letter.

OS thinks there are two questions (at least) at play with Sarah Palin:

1. Should she be President of The United States?
2. Does she deserve the vilification she has endured for being herself in public?

On Question 1, OS is not certain he can say 'yes', but only time will tell in that regard. For now, his view is 'probably not, but she has some valuable role to play somewhere going forward'.

On Question 2, OS sez definitively 'no'. Her treatment has been pretty shameful. Granted, the chaos generated by the daughter's out-of-wedlock pregnancy and accompanying soap opera certainly did not help matters, but had this been the daughter of Pelosi or Reid, the tone from the press would have been much more deferential.

OS keeps returning to that idea of 'culture', that common cement of modesty, shared values and civility that holds things together. Every Weiner, Schwarzenegger, Bill Clinton, Teddy Kennedy, Angelo Mozillo, Goldman-Sachs, Henry Paulson, Housewives of New Jersey episode and LeBron James erode that cement.

What, then to make of a Sarah Palin and her letter to her family in contrast to Anthony Weiner and his anatomical tweets to women with whom engages in phone sex while his wife is newly pregnant? What are we to make of those who still prefer a Weiner to a Palin, such as the editors of the New York Times?

None of this will be solved here, obviously. In the meantime, OS hopes his readers will take time this week to display extra kindness to those closest to them--family, colleagues, friends, church and synagogue. No better place to begin re-gluing the culture than where we are.

Have a great week.

David Kernell, The Creep Who Hacked Palin's Email In 2008, Is Sentenced

What can be said about a true creep?

A former University of Tennessee student who hacked into Sarah Palin's e-mail during the 2008 presidential campaign was sentenced Friday to a year and a day, with the judge recommending a halfway house instead of prison.

U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Phillips also said David Kernell, 22, should get mental health treatment, based on defense comments Friday that he has had conditions including depression since he was 11.

Kernell hugged family members and friends after hearing the sentence. He declined comment as they left the courthouse with his attorney.

He was an economics major when he deduced the answers to security questions and read e-mail in Palin's private Yahoo account.

The son of a Democrat Tennessee state legislator, this bright boy hacked into Sarah Palin's email account, and boasted of it online.

The defense claimed, and the judge agreed, that the poor boy needed 'mental health counseling', while spending a year and a day in a halfway house. Poor, poor boy. Poor child.

Do we wonder why young blacks his age RAGE against the culture? If they're caught with weed or cocaine, it's off for a long stretch at the state pen, or picking up litter for a year alongside the road in a striped suit.

A politically-connected college student, who created chaos in the life of a Vice-Presidential candidate, and cost how-many-hundreds-of-thousands-of-dollars? in the effort to shut him down and bring him to justice (complete with a jury trial!), gets the halfway house and a shrink, at taxpayer expense.

This kid leaves the courthouse smiling, recites the apology dictated by the lawyers (Now, remember kid, ya' gotta sell it!), and moves on to the rest of his well-connected life. No doubt the University of Tennessee will quietly welcome him back, and he will find a career in the Democrat party machine.

The black kid who gets out after selling weed will be unemployable, and back on the street.

Moms and Dads: If you plan to send your kid to UT Knoxville in 2012 or so, the creep's name is DAVID KERNELL. He is a felon, he is a creep, and he will be on campus with your child.

Here's his picture. He's the one on the left. He is a creep. He'll be in your child's world, and in yours. Change your passwords regularly, and make sure your kids steer clear of him. He's on the front end of his career.

'Corrupt Bastards'--Unspeakably Corrupt Bastards

OS is not a big fan of Sarah Palin, but everyone in the public arena deserves the right to express ideas without fear of being slandered for their troubles. That's why OS doesn't rant about Obama's birth certificate, or conspiracy theories, or the wild allegations made about the bodies the Clintons left in their wake. It's tin-foil-hat nonsense, not worthy of a civil society.

But, this--this is something else entirely. This is a smoking gun, this is about the deliberate attempt to slander someone, and Ms. Palin is utterly justified in crying 'foul'. This stuff, unopposed, drives the stake in the heart of the culture.

Sarah Palin finally took the verbal gloves off, as well she should, when she referred to the journalists of the CBS affiliate in Alaska as 'corrupt bastards'.

They were caught on voicemail in the act of being themselves, deliberately attempting to dig up dirt, any kind of dirt, even if they had to create it themselves, against Joe Miller. It was a conspiracy to slander, enthusiastically undertaken.

Here it is, in both recording and transcript.

Only the most myopically naive among us could believe this to be an isolated incident.

Enough already.

Vote the bastards out.

Demand their minions be fired.

Whoops!: Katie Couric As Katie Couric (So Much For Feminist Sisterhood, Ya'll)

Somebody at CBS, beginning with Ms. Couric, gots a whole-lotta-'splainin'-to-do, Lucy.

At the same time, OS is most grateful no cameras were running at the worst moments of his last ten years or so.

Play nice out there, ya'll. It's better for everybody.

ObamaBob Dials Up The Vitriol Level: Remarks On Sarah Palin

(HT to Clifton at Another Black Conservative. You do read ABC, yes?)

Anyway!

OS is not the world's biggest fan of Gov. Palin. He has reservations, which can wait for another day to be stated.

However, she actually held an elected administrative office--the governorship of Alaska. The place is huge, and would have to be a handful to manage wisely, what with the long coastline, the climate, the tribes, it's physical separation from the Lower 48, and the large footprint made by the oil industry. By most accounts, she did an O.K. job in that role. This is more than our current President managed to accomplish before his election in 2008.  The lady oversaw the oil biz in Alaska during her time there. She probably forgot more about oil drilling than Obama learned about it as an Illinois state senator and Presidential candidate.

Now, we've got ourselves a leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, courtesy of British Petroleum, and she was asked about the Obama administration's response, which some think was less than energetic. (Personally, OS isn't sure that's a fair criticism, but that's for another day as well.)

But, she was asked, and when she pointed out that Himself was a 2008 recipient of major amounts of cash sourced from BP, Robert ObamaBob Gibbs just couldn't resist the temptation to denigrate Mrs. Palin on CBS yesterday morning.
"Sarah Palin was involved in that election, but I don't think, apparently, was paying a whole lot of attention," Gibbs said.
"I'm almost sure that the oil companies don't consider the Obama administration a huge ally. We proposed a windfall profits tax when they jacked their oil prices up to charge for gasoline.
"My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed as to what's going on in and around oil drilling in this country."

OS heard ObamaBob utter those words yesterday morning, and thought: 'He really screwed the pooch on this one. The last thing you want to do, at a time like this, is throw vitriolic gasoline on the fire. For openers, her proper title is Governor Palin, just as his is Mr. Gibbs.'

This moment will make the rounds of the MamaGrizzlyBear Movement, and those ladies will take umbrage. They'll conclude that if Obama and ObamaBob think Gov. Palin is just a Stupid Girl ('cuz she's pretty, and she's a mom), they think the same of the ladies who like Gov. Palin. It's sort of like poking that MamaGrizzlyBear with a sharp stick, just to see if she will react.

ObamaBob can rest assured, they'll react. And he won't like the experience come November 3, as he feels the wheels of the bus roll over his torso, after Obama personally tosses him under it.

Polite restraint of tongue and pen, at a moment like that, by a person in that position, is never a bad idea. It's ok to disagree, not ok to be disagreeable.

Just sayin'...

Herman Cain: A Thunderous Voice From The Right

Surfing, and tripped upon C-Span's coverage of Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

Sarah Palin wowed them yesterday, and it was amusing to watch as Obama strode out to the Rose Garden to slowly, deliberately, slowly, slowly make his announcement, to keep the coverage on Himself, and away from 'That Woman!' holding forth in New Orleans.

Herman Cain, by contrast, thundered like the voice of Moses coming down from the mountain bearing the tablets.

Couldn't find today's speech, but this from 2009 should give you a hint. Don't worry, you'll get the gist of him about thirty seconds in. Hang on to your hats!

By contrast, Ron Paul rambled, drawing cheers and boos, and was rather incoherent, if passionate and well-meaning.  GOP chair Michael Steele was met with a tepid response. He's toast.

OS does wonder what it would be like to see Mr. Cain run for President.

It would be amusing to see Obama's folks try to label him a racist!

The Beloved Leader's Contempt On Display: Obama on Sarah Palin

OS is not a huge Palin fan, in terms of seeing her in the White House. She is, however, someone who connects with and speaks on behalf of a lot of Americans--the ones Obama pledged to be a President to as well. Well, if his lips move at moments like that, he's likely prevaricating...

George Stephanapoulis with ABC News managed to induce The One to show his true colors, if only for twenty seconds or so, here at the end of this clip.

His contempt is obvious, and he does not even pretend to mask it.

A leader has any number of ways to gracefully respond to criticism, defend a position, without resorting to ad hominem attack.  That's what classy people do. That's what Himself isn't, and he displayed that gracelessness on the world stage, for all time.

And, thereby, he has just fueled the opposition, and probably tipped some folks over who still were trying to give him a chance.

MSNBC and its 5,000 viewers will cheer. It's a high price for a smattering of applause today, and a world of pain in November.

Just Too Funny Not To Share

This from Barry Ritholz at The Big Picture, usually a place of restrained economic analysis.

William Shatner lends a cameo performance to the Conan O'Brien show, reading a portion of Sarah Palin's farewell speech as governor of Alaska.

It's at least as funny as the old Steve Allen routines, when he performed dramatic recitations of 1960's pop songs.

There's a lesson here: If you want to be taken seriously as a public person, show up with your remarks prepared and rehearsed. Otherwise, the public gets to see how your brain works unedited...

Gov. Palin earned this skewering.
