The BBC features a slideshow of recently released photos of the 9/11 attack in New York City, taken by a police photographer in an NYPD helicopter. They are riveting.
OS promises not to rant, honest. He is working hard to be civil, and dispense with mean-spirited diatribes. It's an effort.
Viewing these pictures, it is not surprising to know that the City of New York and its citizens are not eager for one of the ringleaders of this horror to be brought back to the city for a civilian trail.
Where he can stage a show trial, in full view of the world's anti-American press.
The jurors and their families become targets of Al-Qaeda. As does the city. Again.
OS does not understand how a government can be so totally out-of-touch, literally deaf to its citizenry, in a representative democracy. And it's not just the present administration, either. The Bush White House was notorious for this behavior as well.
Here's hoping someone views these, and re-thinks the decision.
Betcha a jury in central Pennsylvania or Virginia would be willing to serve. Try him first at the Federal level, and then let the state go after him on separate charges. Journalists hate Motel 6's and meals at Denny's. They'll lose interest, and the citizens will be safer with them gone.

I am reminded of a stunt by Richard Nixon when he had fancy uniforms created for all those on the White House staff, uniforms that looked like what you might expect for the Spanish or Italian army. He had imperial delusions, but almost instantly, when they were first seen by the public, the public outcry forced their withdrawal. Unfortunately, more recent administrations have not had such good hearing.
There is no reason to have a civil trial for KSM or any of the Guantanamo detainees. They are not US citizens, but they were making war against us. These are men picked up on the battlefield without any uniform. By the conventional laws of war, they should simply be shot. Giving them military tribunals in Guantanamo is more than lenient. They are not entitled to any Constitutional rights whatsoever, and it makes a mockery of US citizenship to confer it so lightly on our enemies.
A more appropriate reaction would be as Nathan Bedford Forrest said, "War means fighting and fighting means killing. ..."
We continue to delude ourselves about the "war on terrorism" just as we deluded ourselves with the "war on drugs".
Our response to this act of Middle Eastern Aggression :>) - you boys will know what I'm talkin' 'bout! -has been to take the "Akers approach" during bombing raids in WWII - that is to say that we stick to a failed policy even though the results show little progress and higher than necessary costs in our own blood and treasure. Akers was ditched (still stubbornly sticking to his failed philosophy) with Doolittle and they commenced to non-stop assaults on the entire Nazi machine, including its civillian population with the Brits. The enemy didn't collapse immediately, but eventually, it stumbled and fell (faster than it would have by sticking to the Akers approach). Dragging this shit out for nearly a decade (we are approaching 10 years in this bullshit) has been a huge mistake - in my humble opinion. Jeff I miss living in the south. When I lived in Mississippi my counties of residence were Choctaw and Forrest!
