Donald Trump Asks The Cogent Question--How
How has 'the system' been working out for you and your family?
From the Wall Street Journal Op-Ed page today--a firm and coherent statement from Mr. Trump.
On Saturday, April 9, Colorado had an “election” without voters. Delegates were chosen on behalf of a presidential nominee, yet the people of Colorado were not able to cast their ballots to say which nominee they preferred.
A planned vote had been canceled. And one million Republicans in Colorado were sidelined.
In recent days, something all too predictable has happened: Politicians furiously defended the system. “These are the rules,” we were told over and over again. If the “rules” can be used to block Coloradans from voting on whether they want better trade deals, or stronger borders, or an end to special-interest vote-buying in Congress—well, that’s just the system and we should embrace it.
Let me ask America a question: How has the “system” been working out for you and your family?
I, for one, am not interested in defending a system that for decades has served the interest of political parties at the expense of the people. Members of the club—the consultants, the pollsters, the politicians, the pundits and the special interests—grow rich and powerful while the American people grow poorer and more isolated.
No one forced anyone to cancel the vote in Colorado. Political insiders made a choice to cancel it. And it was the wrong choice.
Responsible leaders should be shocked by the idea that party officials can simply cancel elections in America if they don’t like what the voters may decide.
The only antidote to decades of ruinous rule by a small handful of elites is a bold infusion of popular will. On every major issue affecting this country, the people are right and the governing elite are wrong. The elites are wrong on taxes, on the size of government, on trade, on immigration, on foreign policy.
Why should we trust the people who have made every wrong decision to substitute their will for America’s will in this presidential election?
Here, I part ways with Sen. Ted Cruz.
Mr. Cruz has toured the country bragging about his voterless victory in Colorado. For a man who styles himself as a warrior against the establishment (you wouldn’t know it from his list of donors and endorsers), you’d think he would be demanding a vote for Coloradans. Instead, Mr. Cruz is celebrating their disenfranchisement.
Likewise, Mr. Cruz loudly boasts every time party insiders disenfranchise voters in a congressional district by appointing delegates who will vote the opposite of the expressed will of the people who live in that district.
That’s because Mr. Cruz has no democratic path to the nomination. He has been mathematically eliminated by the voters.
While I am self-funding, Mr. Cruz rakes in millions from special interests. Yet despite his financial advantage, Mr. Cruz has won only three primaries outside his home state and trails me by two million votes—a gap that will soon explode even wider. Mr. Cruz loses when people actually get to cast ballots. Voter disenfranchisement is not merely part of the Cruz strategy—it is the Cruz strategy.
The great irony of this campaign is that the “Washington cartel” that Mr. Cruz rails against is the very group he is relying upon in his voter-nullification scheme.
My campaign strategy is to win with the voters. Ted Cruz’s campaign strategy is to win despite them.
What we are seeing now is not a proper use of the rules, but a flagrant abuse of the rules. Delegates are supposed to reflect the decisions of voters, but the system is being rigged by party operatives with “double-agent” delegates who reject the decision of voters.
The American people can have no faith in such a system. It must be reformed.
Just as I have said that I will reform our unfair trade, immigration and economic policies that have also been rigged against Americans, so too will I work closely with the chairman of the Republican National Committee and top GOP officials to reform our election policies. Together, we will restore the faith—and the franchise—of the American people.
We must leave no doubt that voters, not donors, choose the nominee.
How have we gotten to the point where politicians defend a rigged delegate-selection process with more passion than they have ever defended America’s borders?
Perhaps it is because politicians care more about securing their private club than about securing their country.
My campaign will, of course, battle for every last delegate. We will work within the system that exists now, while fighting to have it reformed in the future. But we will do it the right way. My campaign will seek maximum transparency, maximum representation and maximum voter participation.
We will run a campaign based on empowering voters, not sidelining them.
Let us take inspiration from patriotic Colorado citizens who have banded together in protest. Let us make Colorado a rallying cry on behalf of all the forgotten people whose desperate pleas have for decades fallen on the deaf ears and closed eyes of our rulers in Washington, D.C.

On this Easter Day, drawing to a close here in the beloved South, deepest sympathies to all the victims of the latest outrages.
BTW, a report just in that a gunman was intercepted at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis this morning, two weapons and a backpack full of ammunition. No shots fired, suspect in custody. Thousands attend each service at Bellevue, the ultimate soft target. And since it is mainly attended by whites and conservatives, it wouldn't have come up on the President's radar. Ball games to attend, tangos to dance...

“It's time for the United States to start thinking of Iraq as a business opportunity," she said in a 2011 speech.
The quote was included in an email released by the State Department on Wednesday that specifically mentioned JPMorgan and Exxon Mobil. JPMorgan was selected by the U.S. government to run a key import-export bank in Iraq and in 2013 announced plans to expand its operations in the country. Exxon Mobil signed a
deal to redevelop Iraqi oil fields. JPMorgan has collectively paid the
Clintons and the Clinton Foundation at least $450,000 for speeches, and
Exxon Mobil has donated over $1 million to the family’s foundation.

Offer Something Better: Daniel Hannan, Donald Trump, and Ben Carson
If only we could lease Daniel Hannan to serve here--oh well...
But we can pay heed to him.
Donald Trump has become the master at expressing and harnessing the free-floating anger of a great portion of American society. He's really really really good at his craft.
But OS observes this: Great performers and writers are great because they are really really really good at that craft. Why do people buy tickets to hear a favorite performer--likely because that person says what the purchaser wishes he possessed the ability to express himself. Think of James Taylor, Paul Simon, Elton John, Billy Joel, Sting, Beyonce, The Beatles...playwrights such as Neil Simon...actors such as Tom Hanks or Al Pacino or Meryl Streep. We identify because they tell us our own stories, and we all have our own list of favorites. They are valuable and wonderful, but for the most part do not do well at Being In Charge Of Things. They hire managers!
True, Trump is successful in the business of being The Donald, and leveraging it to huge advantage. But this job, The Presidency, may not fit him well.
It is important that someone give voice to the great frustrations that now beset us, and for that--if nothing else--Donald Trump has become a seriously important figure in the culture, and hats off to him.
That does not mean he will make a good President. Does he, as DanHan urges, offer Something Better? OS is not convinced he does, past his ability to articulate anger at this point in history. He may be our modern William Jennings Bryan, who never won the office, but still made a significant impact upon the culture.

Carson is one of the most successful neurosurgeons in history, which means he has a vigorous intellect, a well-disciplined intellect, and no shortage of courage. Would you be willing to spend your workdays drilling into skulls and spines, knowing even a small mishap could ruin the patient's life?
He knows to how to look at dreadful problems and craft solutions to them. He knows to assemble and work with teams of bright people. He knows that his decisions affect many lives for good and ill. He knows how to think long-term. He knows that, as well as he may prepare, once the patient is opened up, he may have to adjust his plans in accordance with the reality that confronts him. He knows there is a God, and Ben Carson is not Him. He knows that science matters.
He also knows how to deliver really bad news, when what the patient and family most desperately wish to hear is good news. Some patients die, even with the best surgeons on the job. The next President will need that particular ability, OS cautions, as the chickens of the past fifty years or so truly come home to roost.
OS believes Ben Carson offers Something Better, which is why he sends what shekels he can in the good doctor's direction.

Prince Charles Shakes Gerry Adams' Hand: Peter Hitchens Asks Uncomfortable Questions
OS is completely unsuitable for membership in the Royal Family. How does he arrive at this profound insight, the gentle reader asks....
Well, Gentle Reader: If my uncle had been murdered, along with two children, by Irish terrorists, I don't think I'd be shaking hands with one of the people who prominently cheered the event, and subsequent events like unto it. Especially if there was never a hint of a subsequent apology.
Call me, well, simple-minded. I just wouldn't have any desire to make small talk over G&T's with such a man.
HItchens, as always, is much more eloquent.
I have more than once refused to shake Mr Adams’s hand. That was more than 20 years ago, when I asked him some awkward questions during his visits to the USA, so much so that, on the one occasion we were alone together, he made his strong displeasure very clear (in public he always feigned friendliness). Not long afterwards he called for me to be ‘decommissioned’. I suspect he’s not the only person who has hoped for this.
By contrast, Prince Charles (who had read one of my books) once expressed an interest in meeting me, and I was alerted to expect an invitation. But the future King was scared off by his advisers, who said it would do him grave harm if it ever got out. Well now look who he’s meeting, and being praised for it, too.
How strange to live in a country where the heir to the throne would rather publicly clasp the hand of a Republican apologist for political murder than privately meet a loyal patriot and monarchist. But there it is. Nothing is but what is not. We must learn to live our lives backwards, sideways, every way but straightforwardly.
Those are chilling words, that final sentence. But there they are, and they do ring true...
BTW, OS is also unsuitable for life around Westminster and Downing Street. Turns out, Her Majesty's government has spent the ensuing years since Mountbatten's murder deliberately not pursuing the perpetrators...

Boris Johnson For President--He Actually Confronts The Apologists For Jihadi John!
If only we could bring back the days of Lend-Lease, and lease Boris for about a decade.
He knows how to run a complex operation...like London, one of the world's most complex cities.
He also knows up from down, right from wrong, and he won't allow people to piss on his shoes and claim it's raining.
Witness this conversation between Boris and Mr. Asim Quereshi, spokesman for a 'human rights' group in the UK named Cage, who referred to Jihadi John as a 'beautiful person', and blamed his horrific behaviour on alllll those baaaaaad raaaacist people in the UK who made poor John feel unwelcome as he studied for his degree at one of the great universities of London. Poor, poor boy...he was driven I say, driven!, to murder innocents on camera and publish his exploits to the world. Of course Beautiful John did wear a mask throughout...

I really, really think that the focus of your indignation and your outrage should be on people who go out to join groups that throw gays off cliffs, that behead people who don't subscribe to their version of Islam, that glorify in the execution of innocent journalists and aid workers.
They should be the object of your wrath, not the security services who are trying to keep us safe.
I urge you more powerfully to differentiate between people like Mr Emwazi and ordinary Muslims and not cry Islamophobia when people criticise, attack, denounce those who engage in such atrocities.

Boris over the last couple of days you have said a lot of things about my organisation. I feel that our opinions on this matter have been somewhat unfairly represented. What this young man has done is absolutely horrific.

It's important that you should get this out there, because it wasn't entirely clear.
I have to say what moved me to anger is the thought you were claiming that the fault for the radicalisation of this young guy lay with the security services.
I watched you explain how he had been seeking a 'career overseas' and had been impeded. Actually he was going off to join a terrorist group in Somalia.
I really, really think that the focus of your indignation and your outrage should be on people who go out to join groups that throw gays off cliffs, that behead people who don't subscribe to their version of Islam, that glorify in the execution of innocent journalists and aid workers.
They should be the object of your wrath, not the security services who are trying to keep us safe.
I urge you more powerfully to differentiate between people like Mr Emwazi and ordinary Muslims and not cry Islamophobia when people criticise, attack, denounce those who engage in such atrocities.

You started off by instantly drawing comparisons with Tony Blair and Dick Cheney and all sorts of other irrelevant nonsense.
If you are going to have an impact on the lives on the minds of young Muslims you have got to focus on what these people are doing wrong and not immediately start scattering blame around. You have got to focus on what they have got wrong about Islam.

I just feel you have got it 100 per cent the wrong way up. The security services are trying to keep us safe. They cannot conceivably be blamed.
If you are a human rights group funded by charity then you should be sticking up for the human rights of those being beheaded in Syria and Northern Iraq, that should be the focus of your concern.
BTW, ya'll: The argument that Mr. Quershi advances is the very same one used to excuse the Boston Marathon bombers, and a variant (involving that 'offensive' video) was used to excuse the Benghazi murderers. Same playbook, identical story line, always advanced by Muslim jihadists and the American Left--beginning with our current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Such A Deal!! Trinidad and Tobago Offers To Swap Toilet Paper For Venzuelan Oil

Venezuela, plagued with shortages of basic goods, was offered a reprieve by the Prime Minister of neighboring Trinidad & Tobago: exchange oil for tissue paper.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar suggested an oil-for-tissue swap in a news conference Tuesday following a meeting in Port of Spain with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. She said the deal would benefit both countries.
“The concept of commodity sharing is simple -– the Government of Trinidad and Tobago will purchase goods identified by the Government of Venezuela from T&T’s manufacturers, such as tissue paper, gasoline, and parts for machinery,” Persad-Bissessar said.
In Venezuela, which has the world’s largest oil reserves, citizens line up outside supermarkets for hours seeking a bag of clothing detergent, toilet paper or cooking oil. Price controls and a lack of dollars for importers have emptied stores of many basic goods, a situation Maduro blames on hoarders conducting an “economic war” against his socialist government.
Officials at Venezuela’s Information Ministry declined to comment.

The American Left, including Himself and Mizz Hillary just looooooove Chavez's model. They fell all over themselves to accommodate the Castro regime last month.
The formula is simple: corruption which creates poverty which feeds corruption with feeds poverty. Anyone who disagrees is an extremist, a hoarder, a saboteur. Not too long before the police arrive in the night to disappear these pesky types.
