Then there's the matter of the USD 300,000 paid weekly (that's like 14 million a year) to anchor-babe Katie Couric. Maybe, since ratings are cliff-diving, she deserves some attention at corporate.
Just sayin'....
Betcha if they sent her on her way, and put the word out that the job was available at, say, 600 k a year, they would have a flood of great resumes and auditions reels.

It will go broke like any other company that pays the help more than they are worth. That's the danger of making those "golden calves" according to Moses and elevating people to "superstar status". My guess is that they could get decent talent for that job for $400k per year and then use the savings to hire a small army of smart street reporters to tell relevant and important news stories to the public. But, is that what American audiences want at this point? I say give it a shot - Columbus took a chance and it worked out o.k.

I suspect there is a lot of talent out there, in a range of industries, who wait in the wings. The attempts to keep the old bubble inflated are actually delaying the onset of a real period of renewal in the culture and economy.
Sadly, the pain level hasn't gotten high enough yet. One would have thought that by this time...
My guess - the younger generation is going to throw the older generation under the bus. I'm an oddity in that I have one foot in the older generation and one foot in the younger and I'm straddling the border in between. My thought, given what they are going to inherit, the youngsters would be right to feel angry and hungry and a little ruthless.
The old trees gotta die so the young un's can see some sunlight. (Meant only in the metaphorical sense.)
