It's pretty inspiring, really. And imaginative.
So, states like New York, California, Illinois wish to severely restrict gun ownership by the law-abiding?
Fine, say the manufacturers. We won't sell you or any of you law enforcement/first responder types anything that normal law abiding citizens are prohibited from owning. Some of them are saying, 'We won't deal with you at all, over anything.'
They have figured out a few simple things, such as--
If the gubb'mint is going after their law-abiding customers, they--the manufacturers, dealers, suppliers--are next. Why sell someone the means to destroy your business?
Their real customers are the law-abiding. That's the core business, and it is best to oncentrate on them.
There is no law--yet--that requires them to respond to request for bids, fill purchase orders, solicit business from gubb'mint entities. If the tree falls in the forest, and no one hears...
As the smaller firms publicize their decisions to not service oppressive states, the law-abiding customer is offered clearer choices about where and what to purchase. As of today, the big firms like Glock, S&W, Sig-Sauer, etc. have not decided to curtail their trade with those who would persecute their law-abiding clientele. Transparency is a wonderful thing.
Hmmmm....
Think about it, ya'll. Would you be willing to sell lethal weapons to regimes like Cuba, Venezuela, Burma, Cambodia? Or, in a more recent example, to the Mexican drug cartels? (Oh, wait. The gubb'mint did that, with our tax dollars, acting in our name.)
We are at the front end of these sorts of considerations, as the Federal government becomes ever more mendacious, and as some states decide to follow its lead. If we are not to repeat the tragedies of twentieth century Europe, it is now time to quietly, peacefully, honorably--resist.
OS has one obvious suggestion to offer: Spend a few bucks, and get a state carry permit. Requests in Indiana have soared three-fold. Even if you decide not to carry, get the permit. Governors and legislators do know how to do math. They know that if they have massive numbers of the law-abiding with carry permits, they are smart enough to know that those permit holders are very likely to be voters. This is a legal, quiet, peaceable, honorable way to send a clear, clear message. Emails and letters to your representative may or may not be read. They are not likely to read any comment on any blog or news story you may leave. They can ignore demonstrators, because they all go home sooner or later. It's harder to ignore a massive uptake of people willing to lay out cash and time to qualify for a permit.
Here's another: Show up when and where your state legislator makes himself/herself available. Get to know that person, and let that person know who you are--a quiet, peaceable, honorable, informed, concealed-carry-permit-holding...voter. Face-to-face is a marvelous thing. Tip O'Neil, that old Bostom slimeball, was correct when he said 'All politics is local'.
Show up to PTA meetings, church, support the local scouts, the local charities, the local NRA banquet. Quietly, peacefully, honorably--lead.
By all means, join the NRA. It's not expensive, it's very informative, and it sends the message.
Also, National Shooting Sports Association is a great organization. You can find local clubs and ranges through them.
This not a time to rage. Or whine. Or threaten and bluster and curse.
It is time to quietly, peacefully, honorably...resist.
The culture shapes the economy long before the economy shapes the culture. Where should we devote our energies?

Anjem Choudary Espouses The Religion Of Peace
Really, ya'll....why should we give a thought about all those good-hearted Muslims?
Why they're just like us. Really!

32% Devaluation In Venezuela Spurs Panic Buying
Remember, dear readers, one and all: Obama and Company really really really like Chavez and Chavismo.
OS shares this with you as a means of, well, mental preparation for what may yet transpire for us.

Five devaluations since 2003, 20% inflation, and it's oil exporting industry on the ropes.
The sweet, cloying, aroma of socialist success.
Forward!!

The NHS, About To Arrive On The Shores Of America
Frances Coppola always provides an interesting perspective, a professional classical singer in the UK with an MBA.
She tells this cautionary tale, a tale of rationing of care, a tale of a system set up to serve appearances, even if a few patients are (in the words of the chilling movie 'Hospital') simply 'forgotten to death'.
Had she not been, in her own words, 'stubborn and bloody-minded', she may not be alive today to tell the cautionary tale.
So, let us not claim that we have not been advised as to what awaits us.

Venezuela Heading Over The Cliff, And The Chavista Voters Cheering Him On
Remember, ya'll... The Obama-ites really really really adore Chavez. Wonder what they'll be doing us?
Second devaluation since 2010...
It was the first devaluation to be announced by Chavez's government since 2010, and it brought down the official value of the bolivar by 46.5pc against the dollar. By boosting the bolivar value of Venezuela's dollar-denominated oil sales, the change is expected to help alleviate a difficult budget outlook for the government, which has turned increasingly to borrowing to meet its spending obligations.
Does this sound familiar?
OS has seen this before, during his Mexican misadventure (don't ask...).
Since the government officials and their bankster and political cronies know what's going down, they make damn sure all their assets are in dollars, pound sterling, Swiss francs--lots of liquid cash in hard currencies, or even gold and silver.
Devaluations always are announced on Friday evenings. On Monday morning, thousands of businesses open their doors as bankrupt enterprises, since their debts are denominated in dollars, and their income in the local currency.
In swoop the gangstas with their liquid cash, and snarfle up the assets of the nation at about .20 on the dollar.
Isn't socialism wonderful?

Pushing Back Against The Intrusion Of 'Progessive' Bureaucrats And Litigators: Indiana Advances The Right-To-Hunt-Fish-Farm Amendment
It's a sign of our perverse times that this would be necessary, but in one state after another, similar language is being added into individual constitutions.
Indiana legislators on Monday renewed debate about a proposed state
constitutional amendment that would guarantee the right to hunt, fish
and farm and place the issue before voters as a statewide referendum
next year.
Indiana would join several
other states adopting similar measures that supporters say are needed
because wildlife hunting and modern agricultural practices are
threatened by animal-rights activists. Opponents maintain the provision
isn’t needed and question singling out hunting and farming for
constitutional protection.
Of course the environmentalists are whining, because it means they will be less able to litigate farmers, sportsmen and individual counties into the ground, collecting huge awards in the meantime--all in the name of 'preserving Mother Earth', to be sure.
Tennessee passed a right-to-hunt-and-fish amendment in 2010, and sixteen other states have some version of the same idea now permanently embedded in their Constitutions.
Unsurprisingly, the BigBlue States like Hawaii, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York and Pennsylvania have all rejected similar initiatives.
It's irritating that this needs to be done, but with an overweening gubb'mint that views everything it sees or touches as its property, this needs to be done.
This journal article from Michigan State's Animal Law Institute by Jeffrey Usman lays out a compelling case for it, surveying law and practice from Saxon England forward. There is always someone out there in duh gubb'mint who decides that everything belongs to them, and we little people must ask permission in order to live, work, eat, hunt, fish or farm.
It's well worth a read.

Rhambo Attempts To Strong-Arm The Banks: Note The Reaction To The News
The CBS affiliate in Chicago reports that Mayor Emmanuel of Chicago is attempting a Gino-and-Vito attack on banks who do business with gun manufacturers.
Basically, he's telling them to knuckle under to the Obama regime's all-out war on any part of a legitimate industry they wish to control or destroy.
Basically, he's telling them to knuckle under to the Obama regime's all-out war on any part of a legitimate industry they wish to control or destroy.
itoThe mayor is urging that banks to stop lines of credit, financing for acquisitions and expansions and financial advising.
In a letter sent Friday to the CEOs of Bank Of America and TD Bank, Emanuel said: “In the past, the gun industry has stood in opposition to these safety measures. They opposed a ban on assault weapons on America’s streets, opposed a ban on military-style clips, opposed a criminal background check on all gun purchases and opposed any effort to crack down on criminal gun traffickers.”
It's the classic Chicago Shakedown: Gino and Vito show up at the local shop on the corner, at the behest of the mayor or mob (really, in Chicago, it's the same thing), and the conversation goes like this:
'Hello, there! I'm Gino, and this is my associate Vito! We're here on behalf of Hizonner to solicit your support in the upcoming election. Why of course we want your vote, but we're talkin' something more, you know, TANGIBLE as an expression of your support, right Vito? You know, Vito, this is such a nice business he's got goin' here, and small business is the backbone of this great country of ours, isn't it Vito? It would be a SHAME if someone were to set it on fire and the fire department not get here in time!
Yeah, Gino, that would be a shame!
Why, thank you! We'll put you down for a fifty-dollar contribution. And we'll be back next week for the next fifty dollars. We want to make sure you're nice and safe, right Vito?
Yeah, Gino, that's right!'
So, to OldSouth, Hizzoner's attempts at extortion are not really news.
What is news are the reader comments following the story. Remember, this is Chicago, Obama's home town, and most of the commenters appear to be locals. The language is vociferous in opposition to the mayor.
Himself and Company may be walking into a buzz-saw of bitter opposition...
One can only hope. Guns aren't the issue here.
Freedom is. And that includes the ability to do business free of the threat of extortion by politicians.

Reed Exhibitions Boycott: Let's Not Stop With One Outdoor Show In Maryland
Oh no, no, no, no, no...
Let's keep up that good work!
Here's the link to Reed's upcoming exhibitions in the US:
Interestingly enough, Reed stages the PGA Merchandise Show.
How many of you golfers out there also enjoy hunting and shooting?
Given the variety and quality of the offerings out there, do you want to patronize golf businesses that do business with Reed?
Then, there's the Security One-to-One show. Wanna buy stuff from people who put money in Reed's pocket?
When firms like Reed begin to bleed large amounts of red ink, their execs get replaced.

Dean Gary Hall: Wearing A Collar Doesn't Immunize Him From Being A Self-Righteous Ass
OS, in his mis-spent youth, was once an Episcopalian. The Prayer Book (as composed by Cranmer) is such a masterful work of both theology and worship.
The leadership of the denomination stripped the churches of it, replacing it with a pale reflection that reads like a list of OSHA regulations.
The Episcopal Church once stood for the broad, judicious middle of the religious culture of the country. After all, it was the church that Washington frequented.
The leadership pulled it to the looney left, never to return. They realized they could hijack all those assets, stripping congregations that protested of the real estate and buildings they had worked so hard over the years to acquire for their parishes. All those bequests, generating all that cash, just there for the taking.
OS left upon being told, in 1988, from the pulpit, by the bishops, that it was his Christian duty to vote for Walter Mondale and the Democrat Party.
When. Hades. Turns. Into. An. Ice. Rink.
So, this piece of drivel washed up on the news today, with the Dean of Washington Cathedral standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Dianne Feinstein, telling us that God told him that it's ok to strip Americans of their freedoms, one bit at a time.
Heretical. Ass. Hole. In. A. Collar.
When. Hades. Turns. Into. An. Ice. Rink. will OS register one weapon.

As Sen. Dianne Feinstein D-Calif. opened her press conference on gun control today, she invited Dean of the National Cathedral Rev. Canon Gary Hall to offer a prayer.
Hall spoke briefly before the prayer, calling for Washington lawmakers to stop fearing the gun lobby and fulfill their “moral duty” to restrict guns.
"Everyone in this city seems to live in terror of the gun lobby," Hall said. "But I believe that the gun lobby is no match for the cross lobby."
