How Wars Begin: Argentina Begins To Turn The Screws On The Falklands

The UK doesn't have the resources to defend their islands.

They sold their Harriers to the US Marines.

Obama and Hilary will side with Argentina (and Chavez's Venezuela, by the way).

We miss you, Mrs. Thatcher and Mr. Reagan.

Why OS Misses Margaret Thatcher, In Less Than Ninety Seconds

This gem from PMQ's--in which The Iron Lady slays Labour--declaring 'they have no competence on money', and battling against any encroachment of the EU upon British sovereignity.

Her words were prophetic. Had she been heeded, we would not be witnessing Europe coming apart at the economic seams.

Where is her successor? Cameron is a failure and a fraud, and we need a strong Great Britain as never before.

Daniel Hannan, step forward. Please.

Happy Birthday, Margaret Thatcher!

Classy, courageous, patriotic, fearless, eloquent.

Oh that we had fifty more of her for our time.

Streep As Thatcher: Coming In January 2012

Here's the teaser trailer:

OS expects a full-on assault on The Great Lady's record and character beginning in November. Expect the same sorts of things to occur to Merryl Streep, who portrays Mrs. Thatcher. She will be shunned in Hollywood from here on, but no matter, with her reputation now secured.

The Left, in the US, UK, and Europe, have much to fear from this, especially Obama, whose cravenness and inability to lead anyone anywhere except over a cliff are now well established, and will be more and more evident by January.

There is an entire generation of the culture that doesn't remember the Great Lady, and The Left will be eager to make damned sure she remains stuffed down the Memory Hole.

OS, on the other hand, plans to be at the first screening for which he can purchase a ticket.

Just What We Need, A Rerun Of The Falklands War

Yessiree, let's leave to it Miz Hillary and The One to get it 180 degrees backward.

The US backed a UN resolution this week calling on the UK and Argentina to 'negotiate' over the issue of the 'Malvinas' islands, which is what the Argentinians call the Falklands.

Riiiight...

There's nothing to negotiate. The Falklands are sovereign British territory, and the residents wish to remain British subjects.

End of story. No debate or negotiations needed. Nothing to negotiate.

Unless...you are one of the current crowd in power in Washington, where up is down, darkness is light, and despotism is freedom.

This sort of amoral chicanery ends up getting wars started.

Reagan and Thatcher knew up from down, right from wrong. What is not generally remembered is that the ass-kicking administered by HM Armed Forces against the Argentinians was the precipitating event that upended the military dictatorship in Argentina.

You know, the one with the death squads, torture chambers, and thousands of people simply 'disappeared' without a trace.

Argentina enjoys a bit more freedom, because Thatcher stood tall, and Reagan stood behind her.

Margaret Thatcher On Church And State

Twenty-two years ago, Margaret Thatcher delivered perhaps the best address on church and state of her generation.

Cranmer was kind enough to remind us of it last month.

Some things never go out of style.  So, this weekend, perhaps give this a few minutes of your time.

A nugget from near the end...

But there is little hope for democracy if the hearts of men and women in democratic societies cannot be touched by a call to something greater than themselves. Political structures, state institutions, collective ideals—these are not enough.

We Parliamentarians can legislate for the rule of law. You, the Church, can teach the life of faith.
