Say What? The Argentine Navy Steaming Toward The Canary Islands?

Read here.

The stranger news from the Adam Smith Institute relates that the Argentine government has nationalized the local holdings of Spanish-held oil company Repsol.

Oh joy...

Let us remember, at this point, that Obama and Miz Hilary really really really like the Kirchner government in Buenos Aires. They think these wonderful wise people should be allowed to take over the Falkland Islands. The fact that the residents of the Falklands are British, and wish to ever remain so, is of no consequence in their minds.

Just something to keep in mind this November, ya'll.

How Wars Begin: Argentina Begins To Turn The Screws On The Falklands

The UK doesn't have the resources to defend their islands.

They sold their Harriers to the US Marines.

Obama and Hilary will side with Argentina (and Chavez's Venezuela, by the way).

We miss you, Mrs. Thatcher and Mr. Reagan.

Just What We Need, A Rerun Of The Falklands War

Yessiree, let's leave to it Miz Hillary and The One to get it 180 degrees backward.

The US backed a UN resolution this week calling on the UK and Argentina to 'negotiate' over the issue of the 'Malvinas' islands, which is what the Argentinians call the Falklands.

Riiiight...

There's nothing to negotiate. The Falklands are sovereign British territory, and the residents wish to remain British subjects.

End of story. No debate or negotiations needed. Nothing to negotiate.

Unless...you are one of the current crowd in power in Washington, where up is down, darkness is light, and despotism is freedom.

This sort of amoral chicanery ends up getting wars started.

Reagan and Thatcher knew up from down, right from wrong. What is not generally remembered is that the ass-kicking administered by HM Armed Forces against the Argentinians was the precipitating event that upended the military dictatorship in Argentina.

You know, the one with the death squads, torture chambers, and thousands of people simply 'disappeared' without a trace.

Argentina enjoys a bit more freedom, because Thatcher stood tall, and Reagan stood behind her.

Dodging The Repo Man

OK, this one's too good not to share!

OS types in 'Argentina Default', and up comes this nugget of news:

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is unable take her presidential jet, Tango One, overseas, because it is likely to be seized by angry creditors.

In other words, she's dodging the repo man like some redneck three payments behind on his pickup truck!

Now, please. Someone, somewhere explain to this old boy why Hilary Clinton should be reassuring these clowns that it's gonna be ok to start a war if they're not allowed to seize the Falklands against the wishes of its inhabitants.

Within the past year, Argentinian debt has been so downgraded as to yield 50%, and they live propped up by Chavez. That's like livin' in Momma's basement...

Oh, please, someone make it stop.  How long until 2012?

Hilary Clinton Helps Brew Up A War, And The US Isn't Paying Attention

So Madame Secretary jets off to Buenos Aires, holds a press conference that essentially tells the Argentine government (that wonderful example of democracy and stability) that the US will stand aside as they attempt to seize the Falklands.

Usual palaver about 'negotiations needed'.

About what?  The Falklands are part of the UK, and the residents have made it quite clear they like it that way.

Why is it people like Hilary rant about 'self-determination' for the Palestinians, and this and that ethnic group around the world, and are stone-cold silent when it comes to defending the right of UK citizens to their clearly-expressed self-determination?

This will lead to war in the South Atlantic, completely preventable.

Obama and Britain: Actions Scream Louder Than Words

If we need any further evidence of the character of the man in the White House, and those who surround, support, and enable him, this commentary from Nile Gardiner should just about put the final nail in the coffin.

He lists the top ten insults toward the UK by the Obama Administration.  They show the low-class, cheap-ass, street-level ChicagoGhetto classlessness of this crew. My favorite is how they presented Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth with a ***!!!!*** I-POD!

('ScuzeMe a moment while I get it out of my system...***!!!***!!!%%%%!!!***????!!!!....There, that's better.)

But, the most serious and telling on the list is number six.

6. Throwing Churchill out of the Oval Office
It is hard to think of a more derogatory message to send to the British people within days of taking office than to fling a bust of Winston Churchill out of the Oval Office and send it packing back to the British Embassy – not least as it was a loaned gift from Britain to the United States as a powerful display of solidarity in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. Obviously, public diplomacy is not a concept that carries much weight in the current White House, and nor apparently is common sense.

Words fail. It's the Foxworthy Syndrome: You just can't make this stuff up!

OldSouth knows from his 'WhereYa'llFrom' Widget that British readers check in every day. And he is most flattered and honored. Over here, we've essentially forgotten the meaning of sacrifice for freedom, and ya'll remind us of it.

OS wants to assure all ya'll that you are not forgotten. Millions of our father and grandfathers came home some 60+ years ago, and yearly ever since, with stories of the courage, decency and hospitality of 'The Brits'.  They are part of the fabric of family histories here.

We remember, even as Obama tries to toss Churchill down the Memory Hole.

OS can't tell his stories yet, but this family owes an enormous debt of gratitude to so many dear people in Great Britain. Ya'll changed our family history forever, in a most positive direction, out of the goodness of your hearts.

Hang tough. Ya'll got an election, and so do we, this year.  Let's show these turkeys who the real Britain and the real US are when we hit the polling booths.

This Is How Wars Begin: The Falklands And Obama's Cluelessness

This just over the transom.

Going largely unnoticed here in the US, Argentina is rattling the saber over the Falkland Islands again.

And the Obama administration has decided to remain neutral!

This from the UK Telegraph:

The Obama administration’s decision to remain neutral in the dispute between Great Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands is a shameful decision that will go down very badly across the Atlantic. As The Times has just reported, Washington has point blank refused to support British sovereignty over the Falklands, and is adopting a strictly neutral approach.
In the words of a State Department spokesman:

“We are aware not only of the current situation but also of the history, but our position remains one of neutrality. The US recognises de facto UK administration of the islands but takes no position on the sovereignty claims of either party.”

The remarks had echoes of an earlier statement by a senior State Department protocol official who, when asked about the shoddy treatment of the British Prime Minister in March last year, responded:

“There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.”

[end quote]
WHAT???!!!???
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

The silence of the Obama administration on this matter screams to the world about its amorality.

All that blather about 'self-determination' for this group and that around the world. The residents of the Falklands have made unmistakeably clear that they are British! And have zero desire to be joined to Argentina.

The UK has one destroyer in the port, and some troops on the island. They assumed they had an ally!

Obama's amorality will only embolden the hawks in a bankrupt Peronist Argentina, and strengthen Chavez's hand in South America. It's like 1937, all over again, only this time on the doorstep of North America. One timely visit by a US carrier group through the Gulf, and on down to the South Atlantic would save thousands upon thousands of lives.

Cowardice and amorality always pave the way to war. Always.

How did this country forget that?
