OK, Lemmee See If I Understand Correctly...Reviewing ObamaThink

Now, the Iranians are making noises about disrupting the sea lanes in the Persian Gulf, through which much of the current oil supply for the West travels. In response, the US has dispatched two naval carrier strike forces, which is a lot of tonnage and firepower in a pretty small corner of the world.

It seems to OS that this would be an expensive undertaking, seeing that we are 15 TRILLION dollars in debt, and Obama will demand to raise the debt ceiling. Hell, he may just tell Treasury to sell the bonds, Congress be damned!

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff is booking it to Israel to consult with our ally, who managed to ratchet up tensions in the area by doing something proactive about Iran's plans to build nuclear bombs and use them to kill Israel.

That means we may have a war on our hands already, in reality. That's expensive, seeing as we are 15 TRILLION dollars in debt.

If we were self sufficient for all our energy production, oil, coal, hydro, nuclear, whatever--then we wouldn't neeeeeeed to spend much money or mental energy on the Iranians. We could tell them to take their oil and brew it into tea and consume it themselves.

So, this would explain why Obama won't allow the construction of an oil pipeline from Canada to our Gulf Coast, right? Why, that might make us more self-sufficient, wouldn't it? And, private monies would be spent on its construction, as opposed to public monies spent on carrier groups patrolling the Persian Gulf, right?

This would also explain the EPA's efforts to shut down one of America's most productive coal mines as well, correct?  Isn't it cheaper to employ private money to mine and ship coal than to have carrier groups watching over oil tankers at taxpayer expense, seeing as we are, well, 15 TRILLION dollars in debt?

So, we have to sit back and wonder: Is Obama a blithering idiot, is he simply not able to hold more than one thought in his mind at a time, or is he deliberately attempting to torpedo the future of this country? Or is he perhaps corrupt, in the pay of some and not in the pay of others because they bid too low?

It appears to OS that there aren't many alternate explanations.  The situation makes no sense, and is deeply dangerous.

This is how wars get started. This is how people get killed by the tens of thousands and millions.

This is really what we can't afford.

This is why we must have grown-ups at the helm.  November 2012 cannot come soon enough.

If You Put A Narcissistic Child In Charge, You Get...

...King Obama, throwing a hissy-fit when confronted with reality.

From Politico:

President Barack Obama abruptly walked out of a stormy debt-limit meeting with congressional leaders Wednesday, a dramatic setback to the already shaky negotiations.

“He shoved back and said ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’ and walked out,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told reporters in the Capitol after the meeting.

President Teleprompter got hiz pantiez-in-a-wad when Rep. Cantor interrupted his long BS discourses, and aides asserted Mr. Cantor had not been sufficiently...deferential.

Who knew Cantor was expected to kiss the presidential ring in order to enter the Presence of Himself?

Adult conversation, anyone?

Egypt, From Tennessee

OS has a huge week ahead of him, so will be very sporadic in his ruminations for his legions of readers...

What Egypt looks like from here, through the glimpses seen via Al-Jazeera, CNN, the papers, etc., is:

These kids in the street don't look like Islamic fundies. They look like really frustrated young people with educations, ambitions, and nowhere to use them. All they've known is this old horse's ass in charge their entire lives, propped up by the US, the UK, and Europe, corrupt to the core, with his boot on the neck of the culture.

They also have access to the outside world and one another via satellite TV, internet, mobile devices, Twitter, etc. etc., and they don't for a minute buy the official line from anybody. They know there's a better life out there, and that freedom is the cure to the problem. They just don't know how to get from where they are to where they want to be. But in the meantime, burning down the offices of the official state party looks like a good place to begin.

They hate the United States, the UK, and Europe for propping up the old horse's ass, 'cuz they know that each barrel of oil transiting the Suez Canal means infinitely more to those places that the quality of any normal person's life in Egypt. OS thinks his country has failed the morality test by refusing to develop its own reserves of oil, coal, gas, and nuclear, thus ending the dependence on oil coming through that canal. Our self-righteous insistence on pristine wilderness above the Arctic Circle is paid for by the young unemployed in places like Cairo and Alexandria.

Shame on us. We know better, and refuse to act on what we know. It is unsurprising to see the Stars and Stripes set ablaze in the streets of Cairo.

Upsetting, yes. Surprising, no.

Religious crazies can appeal to such people, by creating a sense of communal persecution, the prospect of participating in the delivery of divine righteous wrath upon the guilty, and offering the hope of some sort of KingdomOfGodOnEarth with which to replace the current situation. Sane people know that these three items are lies by which unhappy people are seduced, but it looks like a lot of these young people have run out of patience, and think the insane people are the ones running the government, especially the 82-year-old horse's ass.

Here's hoping, here's hoping, here's hoping that they will not listen to the siren song of Islamic fundamentalism, and will insist instead on a government that allows them to live their lives, pursue their dreams for themselves and their families, knows how to hand over power peacefully, and otherwise leaves them the hell alone.

Here's hoping, from Tennessee.

Tone Deaf: Obama's Mosque

The New York Times tells the story.

WASHINGTON — President Obama delivered a strong defense on Friday night of a proposed Muslim community center and mosque near ground zero in Manhattan, using a White House dinner celebrating Ramadan to proclaim that “as a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country.”

“I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground zero is, indeed, hallowed ground,” the president said in remarks prepared for the annual White House iftar, the sunset meal breaking the day’s fast.

But, he continued: “This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are.”

In hosting the iftar, Mr. Obama was following a White House tradition that, while sporadic, dates to Thomas Jefferson, who held a sunset dinner for the first Muslim ambassador to the United States. President George W. Bush hosted iftars annually.

Aides to Mr. Obama say privately that he has always felt strongly about the proposed community center and mosque, but the White House did not want to weigh in until local authorities made a decision on the proposal, planned for two blocks from the site of the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

It's difficult to imagine any US President as utterly tone-deaf to his country as Barack Obama. It's like he's from another planet, or some other country, or some other dimension, place and time.

He's been willing to use the safety of Arizona's citizens to try to get John Kyl to vote his way on immigration. He just leaves a big bunch of the border open to the criminals until Arizona knuckles under. He's been willing to let the entire Gulf Coast twist in the wind until He gets the energy bill He thinks He deserves.

So, a simple question: If he's willing to do that, why wouldn't he be willing to propose a deal with the Saudis, to wit:

1. You get to have your mosque near Ground Zero. But you have to engrave in marble on the face of your mosque, in English, a condemnation of the murderers who attacked on 9/11. Consign them to whatever Perdition you think bad Muslims go to.

2. You allow and actively support the building of a large Catholic church near the largest mosque in Riyadh, and you absolutely guarantee the safety of the clergy, staff and parishoners. You declare that religious freedom and full equality for women are the new law of the Kingdom, and you enforce it. When the Pope shows up to say Mass in Riyadh, you can open your new mosque in lower Manhattan.

3. You denounce all persecutions of Christians and Jews within Islamic environs, and you open diplomatic and trade relations with Israel and the Vatican to prove you mean it. That gets you a building permit.

Shoot-fahr, Bubbah! It's The Chicago Way to horse-trade, ain't it?

Why, a President would damn-near have to be some sort of closet Muslim himself not to pick up the phone and tell Hizzoner Bloomberg this is one of the worst ideas in American history. Or he'd have to be a narcissist, tone-deaf and blind, totally unable to identify with the feelings and sensibilities of anyone except Himself. Completely out of touch with the nation he lives in, which he serves as Head of State.

Just about every Democrat member of Congress and Senate, governors, and Democrat pols down to dog-catcher have pictures of themselves arm-in-arm, smiling sweetly with The One.

Now, all their opposition has to do is publish them, alongside the news that The One actively supports The Mosque At Ground Zero.

Not One Mention Of The 'AstroTurf Word' From The New York Times

Today's New York Times features a long and thoughtful article by David Barstow, telling the stories of previously apolitical citizens who have become Tea-Party activists.

Well worth reading and considering, especially if you are visiting this blog from overseas. Barstow presents an even-handed account, and carefully avoids the temptation to create cartoon characters, as so many in the MSM have attempted.

A brief excerpt:

The Tea Party movement has become a platform for conservative populist discontent, a force in Republican politics for revival, as it was in the Massachusetts Senate election, or for division. But it is also about the profound private transformation of people like Mrs. Stout, people who not long ago were not especially interested in politics, yet now say they are bracing for tyranny.

Again, highly recommended, and worthy of sharing, especially for readers outside our shores. America can look very confusing from a distance, and this article helps provide some focus.

As OS has mentioned before, Cintons/Gore/Obama/Pelosi/Reid et al could always count on the uncritical support of the New York Times. Those days are drawing to a close. The Massachusetts 'attitude adjustment' is beginning to take hold in the editorial suite. The fact that they are going broke has also focused their attention a bit. One reader at a time, they alienated their readership, one half-truth and outright whopper at a time.

Chill winds are blowing, and Obama and Company have lost a great deal of their traditional shelter.

(Two loyalist Democrat senators, Bayh and Mikulski, announced their exit this week. They've had enough.)

Obama And Iran Explained

Maybe this is the reason our President seems so, shall we say, intimidated by the Iranian question.

Just sayin'...

(ooh, that was uncivil...)

The Unanticipated Obvious Question

The Wall Street Journal chronicles the continuing self-destruction of the once grand Chrysler Corporation.

In May, Randy Painter and his nine siblings were taken aback to learn their 65-year-old family business—two Chrysler Group LLC dealerships in Nephi and St. George, Utah—would be terminated as part of the auto maker's restructuring. The dealerships, opened by their grandfather and father, respectively, were historically profitable and had long been an integral part of their small communities. Since June, they have struggled to convert their stores into used-car dealerships—and, like many rejected dealers, they still question the logic behind Chrysler's decision.

Let's remember Spring 2009:  President Hopey-Changey and company rammed a pre-packaged 'bankruptcy', which violated much of the federal code, through the court of a willing judge, and what remained of Chrysler was handed to Fiat, in a no-cash transaction.  The bondholders, who held bonds that told them in black-letter type they were first in line in the event of a bankruptcy, were shoved to the end of the line, behind the UAW.  Many of the dealers, the ones tasked with selling the vehicles, were told that their franchises were being revoked arbitrarily, and in some cases, handed arbitrarily to other dealers; in one case, the franchise was handed to a dealership ACROSS THE ***!!!*** STREET from the former dealership.

Without notice. Without compensation. They were simply told to take a hike. Hope and Change have spoken.

Many of these dealers were multi-generation family businesses in smaller cities around the country. You know, the people who for eighty years had provided jobs, funded the local charities and churches, sponsored the softball teams, etc. etc.

All gone. You guys go away, even if you were making good money. Hope and Change have arrived, and your services are no longer needed. TV screens across the land were filled with the images of devastated family business owners standing in front of their empty dealerships sporting Chrysler signs, some of them freshly purchased a few months before, at the insistence of Chrysler Corporation.

Then comes Cash-for-Clunkers. Toyota wins, Ford wins, even GM sells some, and Chrysler sales barely move.  Then things got worse.

Even the press release hacks at Chrysler had to admit the truth at the bottom of the page after several paragraphs of optimistic verbiage.

Did anyone, anywhere in President Hopey-Changey's staff ever anticipate the potential car buyer's obvious question:

If they'll do this to their dealers, what will they do to me?

Helicopter Ben's Legacy

HT to Skeptical CPA, who passed along this gem of wisdom:

If the US dollar were back on the gold standard, notes Societe Generale analyst Dylan Grice, then gold would have be priced at $7,648 an ounce in order to fully back all of the dollars in circulation.

Enjoy.

Himself and The Nobel Peace Prize

Maybe this is why the chic left thinks The Beloved Leader deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

If he does not act decisively to push back against the monsters of the Taliban, it will be decades before there is a chance to confront the New Dark Ages the Muslim fundamentalists have planned for much of the world.  Or, worse, we'll have to confront it much more up-close and personal, and at incredibly higher cost.

And we just might lose, you know.

And, for some perverse reason, that's ok with the chic left...

Washington Post Coverage of 9/12

Hand-lettered signs.

Carried by people who paid their own way to the rally.

30,000 registered online, but many many more showed up on their own.

You know...AstroTurf.

Pelosi can continue to believe that if she wishes.

Hand-lettered sign of the day: Having government manage your health care is like having Michael Vick watch your dog.
