The lawyer representing the striking musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra was in a Manhattan federal court Monday facing charges that he embezzled $150,000 when he represented dancers and stagehands at American Ballet Theatre.
Leonard Leibowitz, 72, is accused of writing checks to himself from union funds between 1997 and 2005 and helping prepare reports that contained forged signatures when he was working for the Independent Artists of America Union, according to a two-count indictment handed down March 3 in U.S. District Court for southern New York.
